It's not clear to me that "Etsy’s strategy so far is to double down on the artisanal stuff". The ads I see from Etsy don't focus on the artisanal anything. They're all "you can get clothing and housewares for your taste", which looks like the same sort of generic crud you can get on Temu or Amazon.
I don't know if there's any money in Etsy's original market position -- artisans making unique items by hand -- but I can guarantee that if you're just selling the same stuff from the same Chinese factories you're going to get your lunch eaten by somebody who does it at bigger scale.
I stopped using Etsy because it stopped really being a place to get handcrafted items made by individuals and started being a place for people to resell crap from Temu, etc.
If I could go there and have any trust that I know what I'm buying and from who, I wouldn't have left them.
